Do You Have a Lamb?

The world is approaching Easter for which I prefer to use the name Resurrection Sunday. It is the day we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ as believers and followers of the Messiah, Savior, Lord, King of kings and Lord of lords.

The crucifixion of Jesus occurred during the Jewish Feast, Passover. In Jewish history, Passover was the day Jews celebrated the night God passed judgment on Egypt. Egypt had enslaved Israel for over 400 years, and Israel cried out to their God for deliverance. God heard their cries and sent Moses to be their deliverer. Moses went to Pharaoh many times to demand that Israel be set free, and sometimes Pharaoh said no and at other times he said yes but then changed his mind.

God, as a result of Pharaoh’s disobedience, sent plagues on Egypt and each plague revealed that His power was greater than the power of the Egyptian gods. Plagues of water turning to blood, frogs and flies, boils and hail, cattle dying and others, but Pharaoh would not obey God and let His people go. It was interesting that even though the plagues reached all the people of Egypt they did not touch the Israelites.

Finally, after the obstinate pharaoh would not relent, God told his people to take a lamb, slaughter it and put its blood on the doorposts of their homes. During the night, the Lord passed through the entire land of Egypt and judged Egypt by killing the firstborn of every family. However, if He saw the blood of the lamb on the doorpost of a house, the life of the firstborn in that house was spared. He said, “And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt. (Exodus 12:12-13 (NKJV))

I see a lot of similarities between that Passover many centuries ago and the Passover we are about to encounter this year. To be saved from the plague they were encountering then, they needed a lamb and to be obedient to what God was telling them. If a household did not have a lamb, they could go in with a friend who did have one, remain in their home for the night and they would be spared. Exodus 12:6

My question to you today is this, “Do you have a lamb? If not, do you know someone who does? If you have a lamb and know of someone who doesn’t, are you willing to offer to share with that person your lamb?”

You may be asking, “Lamb? What lamb?”

Let me jump to the New Testament for the answer to those questions. When John the Baptist was baptizing people in the Jordan river, Jesus came to be baptized. As He approached John, John saw Him and announced, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” John 1:29 (NASB)

Jesus as the Lamb of God was the lamb without blemish that was sent to take every sin, every plague, every sickness to those who had the faith to accept Him as their Savior and Deliverer. He also is the Great Physician.

Those Israelites who heard God’s command to put the blood of the Passover Lamb on the doorposts did so by faith that only God could save them during this plague then, and for those of us today who by faith hear God’s commandment to turn to His Son and apply His blood to the doors of our hearts there is deliverance, healing and salvation.

Do you have a Lamb for Passover? Share mine with me.

John 3:16 (NKJV) 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Revelation 3:20 (NKJV) 20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
